Hovawart means "guardian of the farmstead". Skuld is the Norn who spins the thread of all that shall come – and our female carries that very name: Skuld von den Nornen. Now it is confirmed: she is expecting 7-8 puppies.

In Norse mythology the three Norns spin the threads of fate beneath the world tree Yggdrasil. Skuld is the Norn of the future – the one who spins the thread of all that is yet to come. Our female Blacky carries the Norn's own name – Skuld von den Nornen – and now Skuld is truly spinning: the pregnancy scan has confirmed that Blacky is expecting her first litter of 7-8 puppies.
The puppies grow up in the middle of our family with calm, closeness and early socialisation, giving them the best possible start in life. We take great care to make sure every puppy ends up with exactly the right family.

Blacky has been to the vet for her pregnancy scan, and the result could not be better: there is life – and plenty of it. The vet counted 7-8 puppies on the screen. Now the countdown truly begins.

ᛉChapter III · The Guardian
Blacky's pedigree name is Skuld von den Nornen – she is quite literally named after the Norn Skuld. She was born on 9 January 2021 at the German kennel Hovawarte von den Nornen and today lives with Karen-Marie Pedersen in Bevtoft, Denmark. The kennel name Kennel Hovi Skuld of Joy carries her thread onward.
She is the breed in a nutshell: watchful, loyal and deeply attached to her pack – yet full of playfulness and joy in her work. She is breeding approved by the Danish Hovawart Club (DHK) and has been shown 25 times in Denmark and 5 times in Germany with fine results.
ᛏChapter IV · The Sire
The sire of the litter is the Swedish male Hässlehoffs Agnelli-Violson – a handsome black-and-tan Hovawart from Kennel Hässlehoffs in Hässleholm. He was born on 26 November 2022 and lives in Denmark.
He brings outstanding health results: HD A (the best hip score) and ED 0, a passed extended mental assessment (UM) and a pedigree with a 0% inbreeding coefficient – sired by the Nordic champion Hayaklause Nexxo. He is fully breed-surveyed (avlskåret) in the Danish Hovawart Club 2025. Combined with Blacky's black colour, the litter may include both black puppies and black-and-tan puppies.

Blacky is a healthy carrier of one DM gene (N/DM) – it does not affect her own health. The sire is tested DM: N/N (clear), and this combination means that none of the puppies can develop the disease. Like their mother, some puppies may be healthy carriers, which has no impact on a dog's health or life.
Blacky has been shown 25 times in Denmark and 5 times in Germany, consistently graded Excellent. Highlights include:
“2½ year old deep black female of medium size, strong bone structure and perfect proportions, very typical for the breed. Strong head with feminine expression, excellent ears, dark eyes, straight lips and complete scissor bite. Well muscled shoulders and topline, deep and broad chest, tail with excellent carriage, correct in length and set-on. Straight legs, perfect angulations; in movement a little close in hocks, powerful movement with good drive and reach. Shiny coat with good structure and length. Friendly and self-confident, today in top form and an ideal representative for the breed.”

ᚹChapter VII · Guardian of the Farmstead
The Hovawart is an old German working and guard dog breed – the name comes from the medieval "Hofwart": guardian of the farmstead. It is a medium-to-large dog that comes in black, blond and black-and-tan.
The Hovawart bonds strongly with its family and is known for being good with children and faithful for life.
It naturally keeps an eye on house and home – calm, confident and without aggression.
The breed thrives on tasks: obedience, tracking, rally and other dog work together with its owner.
A Hovawart needs exercise, training and mental stimulation – in return you get a partner for life.

A puppy from Kennel Hovi Skuld of Joy is bred according to the guidelines of the Danish Kennel Club and the Danish Hovawart Club – with health, temperament and the right start as the top priorities.
Send an email and tell us a bit about yourselves, your everyday life and your experience with dogs.
We talk on the phone or meet up, so we can get to know each other – and you can say hello to Blacky.
If we are a good match, we put you on the waiting list for the litter.
When the puppies are old enough, we help match the right puppy to your family. The puppy moves home at 8 weeks at the earliest.
ᚨChapter IX · Questions & Answers
The Hovawart is a fantastic dog – but it requires time, consistency and a genuine interest in training. It is independent and watchful by nature, so it suits families who want to work actively with their dog. We are happy to have an honest talk about whether the breed is right for you.
At 8 weeks old at the earliest – this is both a legal requirement and best for the puppy's development. Before then, you are welcome to visit the puppies several times.
Yes, we encourage it! You meet the puppies, Blacky and us, and see how the puppies grow up in the middle of our home. The first visit is typically arranged when the puppies are 3-4 weeks old.
Expect daily walks, free play and ideally an activity such as obedience, tracking or rally. An adult Hovawart thrives on 1-2 hours of activity a day plus mental stimulation. In return, it is calm indoors once its needs are met.
We follow the puppies' temperaments closely through the first weeks and help match puppy and family. That gives the best outcome for both dog and owner – and it is how we ensure happy dogs for life.
We always stand behind our puppies. If you run into problems, we help with advice and guidance – and as a last resort we help find a new good home. A Hovi Skuld of Joy dog never ends up in a shelter.
